I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the headset drivers - nothing. I called Plantronics - they said it’s the same hardware as the.Audio 655. So why would an updated model have worse quality?
I’m thinking the drivers. My old headset was recognized as ’ Generic USB Audio Device.’
In the mic settings, I could enable AGC (automatic gain control). The new headset is correctly recognized as a ’Plantronics.Audio 655 DSP.’ I do not have the AGC option, and even on max, the mic isn’t loud enough. Maybe the DSP technology is causing a conflict in a 64-bit OS - I tried looking for hotfixes, but couldn’t get any to install.
Further, Plantronics has no drivers available for download. I’m thinking if I can get the new headset to use the same drivers as the old headset, I can get this thing working. So how can I locate the.Audio 655 drivers and force the.Audio 655 DSP to use them? (I can still plug in the.Audio 655; the wire isn’t chewed through completely. The mic and left ear don’t work.) Also open to any other solutions beyond ’go buy X.’ Running Windows 7 64-bit.
